inside the design
Discover the standout features that make Pycon’s Port Macquarie display homes a showcase of modern design. Each home — from the Bayside to the Waratah — highlights the craftsmanship, textures, and design details that define Pycon’s approach to modern home design. Thoughtful layouts, natural light, and timeless finishes come together to create spaces that are both functional and beautifully refined.
Bayside Display Home
Profiled Joinery
The vertical thermolaminated cabinetry by Polytec was selected for the beautiful texture is brings, adding tactile interest to the home. It can be found from the first step in, and carried into the heart of the home, the kitchen.
It is important not to overuse the textured surface. Place it strategically to not only avoid busy-ness, but to save un-necessary associated cost.
Tiled Splashback
Stone benches and matching splashback stone has represented elegance and sophistication in kitchen design.
The stone look, large format splashback tiles seen in the Pycon Bayside display were selected in the interest of offering a solution for people wanting the beauty of stone but who may not have the budget for it.
It is important to ensure the benchtop stone is complimentary to the splashback tile so it works seamlessly.
Asymmetrical features
These features depart from predictable patterns adding visual interest. Traditional arches date quickly, so a unique approach was selected to add interest without the lifespan of the design.
They shapes convey a sense of movement and contribute to a more informal or personalised aesthetic.
It is important not to use such a feature in isolation, or in a way that is not consistent with the rest of the home’s aesthetic.
This feature can be seen in the kitchen, some feature entryways and the decorative screen in the activity room
Florentine Walnut Joinery
The rich, chocolate brown walnut of the joinery was selected to offer a sophisticated, luxurious aesthetic that creates a cozy, inviting, and warm atmosphere. It also adds visual depth and interest.
Natural Light
Skylights were an important element of the Pycon display homes. They have been a consistent feature in Pycon display homes for over a decade.
We understand that natural light creates a more attractive and spacious aesthetic. It highlights home features and contributes to a healthier living environment. An added bonus is it enhances mental and physical health by improving mood. In board and south facing zones in the house can benefit significantly from strategic placement of a skylight.
Waratah Display Home
Wall panelling
A cost-effective way to add interesting texture to your home is through wall panelling. Placed strategically, it can offer enhancement to large walls in important areas of the home.
This vertical batten style panelling was selected to compliment the Modern style interior. Overuse can detract from its appeal and become too busy, so be sure to use it with restraint.
Colour Blend Bricks
The colour blend bricks seen on the Pycon Waratah display home offer increased visual interest by creating depth, dimension, and a unique focal point through the combination of different hues. They also give opportunity for the use of numerous paint colours from light to dark, depending on personal style and needs.
Consistent coloured finishes
The Waratah showcases matt black fixtures that are staying strong as a highly popular finish. The matt black and dark copper finishes (seen in some of the feature lighting) complement beautifully and were selected due to their appeal to both the feminine and masculine aesthetic tastes.
Consistency is important when selecting a finish. Matt Black tapware should be complimented by matt black wastes, handles, lighting, frames etc. If not matching, the finish needs to be complimentary.
Feature Lighting
Feature lighting can create a specific ambience, from warm and intimate to vibrant and energetic, influencing the emotional tone of a room. It adds aesthetic appeal by creating atmosphere, personalising a space, and highlighting architectural details and décor.
The feature lighting in this display home was carefully selected considering 4 things:
- the rooms function and scale
- the desired mood
- the style of the existing décor
- the light’s colour temperature and colour rendering
The Sepia finish of the shades add a beautiful sense of warmth, lifting the cooler pallet of the homes finishes.
